VÚHŽ Company has focused on the modernisation of the special profiles rolling mill

Recently, VÚHŽ as a subsidiary company of Třinecké železárny, has started to modernise the rolling mill of special profiles. Investments will amount to CZK 83 million and it is predicted to increase mill capacity by fifty percent. Simultaneously, the company is going to widen its product portfolio to the larger and more complex shape profiles to gain safety at work.

"Owing to upgrading process we respond to technical demands of customers and growing demands of our products. Currently, we supply special rolled profiles, especially intended for customers from the automotive industry specially the profiles for the door hinges production. However, a large part of a new production is being designed for the engineering and construction industry, "says Mr. Karel Rojko, Director of VÚHŽ. Production development will also raise the number of employees in order units.

The main goals of the proposed modernisation consist of increasing the production capacity and achieving the weight of profiles up to 30 kg/m, from the current 21 kg/m and, the possibility to use heavier inputs with the cross section of 150x150 millimetres. This investment phase of the project will have been completed by the end of January next year.

Another part of the renewal is also implementation of industrial water recirculation system and scales separation, thereby preventing from the negative environmental impact of daily operations. In order to improve working conditions and safety at work, there will be installed manipulators to existing rolling mill DUO 800. “The most important part of the investment is a new finishing sliding stand together with the flatbed solution, equipment for the quick cylinders change and equipment for cutting of rolled profiles to the commercial lengths," added Director.

Supply contract, installation and launching of the core technology for the rolling mill modernisation of the special profiles, was signed by VÚHŽ management and The Consortium Representatives of Primetals Technologies Czech Republic and Primetals Technologies Italy in December last year. Immediately afterwards, works on the project documentation have begun.

Since 2007 VÚHŽ is a solely owned subsidiary of Třinecké železárny steelworks. Besides metalworking and coating, VÚHŽ also focuses on special rolled profiles, centrifugal castings and low-volume equipment for foundries and steel plants. It has also its own accredited laboratories and testing rooms. Currently, the company exports approximately sixty percent of its production and products are directed e.g. to Austria, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Slovakia, India, China and USA. Commercial production at the rolling mill of special section profiles was launched in 1989.
