TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY RELEASES PART OF OXYGEN CAPACITIES FOR HEALTHCARE NEEDS

Třinecké železárny decided to help healthcare at a time of increased oxygen consumption used for the treatment of COVID-19 disease. In cooperation with Linde Gas, it will release 25% of its capacity.

Oxygen consumption in domestic hospitals has increased significantly in recent times. Compared to the normal situation, the consumption of liquefied oxygen has tripled, with oxygen in cylinders even quadrupling. Oxygen therapy is used in the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19 disease, thanks to which the condition of patients can significantly improve and the diseased body is quickly regenerating.

"Our absolute priority is to meet the increased demand in healthcare and get oxygen to all patients who need it. We are therefore looking for all solutions to be able to deliver these volumes. That is why we very much appreciate that Třinecké železárny came to our aid and released part of its reserved oxygen capacity for healthcare needs,” describes Petr Partsch, CEO of Linde Gas.

We are aware of the impact of the epidemiological situation. Therefore, at a time of higher oxygen consumption in healthcare, we will release a quarter of the capacity from our storage tanks. This will enable Linde to increase their additional production capacity to help treat patients with severe course of the disease,” explains Česlav Marek, Production Director of Třinecké železárny.

Linde will use up to 25% of Třinecké železárny's oxygen reserves for healthcare needs and will maintain a minimum oxygen supply of 75%, instead of the required 100% capacity. It will take approximately 70 days to replenish capacity to full capacity.

Linde produces the oxygen needed for steel production as well as for the technology of blowing pulverized coal into blast furnaces in a modern air separation plant. At a modern facility built in the immediate vicinity of TŽ, it produces more than 1,000 tons of oxygen a day, as well as nitrogen and argon.
