Statement by the group Moravia Steel – Třinecké Železárny
Representatives of the management of Moravia Steel and Třinecké železárny met with representatives of the government of the Czech Republic this morning to discuss the strategy for steel production in the Czech Republic. The appreciated the approach of ministers Zbyněk Stanjura, Jozef Síkela and Marian Jurečka, who are actively interested in the situation at the Liberty Ostrava steel plant.
„We highly appreaciate the meeting with the ministers who are significantly addressing the issues of the Czech steel production as well as the current situation at the second Czech steel plant – Liberty Ostrava. At the meeting, we presented our concrete steps for the rapid takeover of secondary production at Liberty Ostrava, which will enable a significant portion of the company´s employees to remain employed,“ said Petr Popelář, Charmain of the Board of Moravia Steel, after the meeting.
The Company representatives also informed the ministers about the strategic plan for the future utilization of the current primary production site at the Ostrava steel plant, which considers the strong potential synergistic effect between the two plants. Třinecké železárny is currently working on an extensive decarbonization project aimed at maintaining the production of high-quality and green steel.
„Synergies and the utilization possibilities of both sites will allow for the maximum volume of steel production to be maintained in the Czech Republic. At the same time, they will provide a solution for the comprehensive decarbonization of the steel industry in the Czech Republic,“ added Roman Heide, General Director of Třinecké železárny. He also urged Liberty Ostrava employees who are considering resigning to wait with their decision. „ We understand the difficult situation that Liberty Ostrava employees are in, but given their expertise, their continued employment is crucial ath this moment,“ added the General Director of TŽ.
